Government plans revamp to secure utility stores and jobs

The federal government will modify the Utility Stores Corporation instead of closing it to ensure seamless functioning and address concerns. The National Assembly heard this from Federal Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Hussain on Wednesday.

He explained that political influence and mistaken goals have hampered utility stores, which provided affordable everyday essentials to the public. The reformation optimizes its functionality to better fulfill their purpose.

Minister Hussain told PPP leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf that the outlets will not close. He stressed that thousands of workers depend on these establishments, making their survival crucial. In legislative committees, all parties agreed on the importance of their operation.

Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said these outlets are essential for low-cost goods and job creation. The government had told parliament that the utility stores would not close, soothing fears.

The restructuring plan addresses concerns including stores in unsuitable locations owing to political appointments. This program should improve management and efficiency, benefiting the public and employees.
