Karachi is currently experiencing an intense cold wave, with temperatures dipping to single digits in several areas. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Jinnah Terminal recorded a chilly 8.8°C last night, while other parts of the city saw temperatures of 10°C in Gulistan-e-Johar, 11.5°C at Shahrah-e-Faisal and Madi Pur, and 12.4°C in Bin Qasim.
PMD forecasts similar conditions over the next three days, with temperatures expected to range between 12°C and 14°C. This unusual cold snap has prompted residents to bundle up and adapt to the colder-than-usual weather.
Beyond the cold temperatures, the city and neighboring regions are grappling with significant rainfall shortages. From September 2024 to mid-January 2025, rainfall across Pakistan was 40% below normal. Sindh faced the largest deficit at 52%, followed by Balochistan with 45% and Punjab at 42%. This lack of rain has worsened water shortages and created challenges for the agriculture sector, especially in rain-fed areas.
With Karachi bracing for cool days ahead, residents are advised to stay warm and keep an eye on weather updates.
