Update on Saim Ayub’s injury from PCB

Pakistan’s young batting sensation, Saim Ayub, is set to remain off the field for another month following a right ankle fracture sustained during the second Test against South Africa. The 22-year-old injured himself on January 3 while attempting a relay fielding effort in the deep third-man region. Unfortunately, the injury has also ruled him out of the Champions Trophy 2025 squad.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that Ayub is recovering well and undergoing rehabilitation in England. Medical evaluations, including MRIs and X-rays, determined a 10-week recovery period from the date of injury. His availability for Pakistan’s upcoming tour of New Zealand (March 16 to April 5) will depend on his fitness and clearance from final medical tests.

Saim Ayub’s career thus far has been nothing short of remarkable. Since his international debut against Afghanistan in March 2023, he has earned 44 caps and showcased a flair for delivering under pressure. With three centuries and a half-century in just nine ODIs, Ayub has solidified his reputation as a dependable top-order batter.

His contributions played a pivotal role in Pakistan’s ODI series whitewash against South Africa last year, during which he scored two centuries and was named Player of the Series. Known for his aggressive yet composed batting style, Ayub remains a key figure in Pakistan’s future cricket plans.

The PCB, while optimistic about his recovery, continues to monitor his progress closely. Cricket fans eagerly await his return to the pitch, as he remains an integral part of Pakistan’s lineup in the upcoming international challenges.
