According to sources, JUI-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and reiterated his call for new elections.
Maulana Fazl voiced his concerns at the meeting, saying he does not approve of the current system and thinks new elections are required to eradicate the reputation of election tampering.
PM Shehbaz responded by asking for cooperation, but the JUI-F leader refused to budge. The prime minister asked for more time to consult.
The development comes after opposition leaders discussed a coordinated strategy against the administration during a Grand Opposition Alliance conference. Citing alleged electoral tampering in the February 8 elections, Maulana Fazl also demanded the resignation of the Chief electoral Commissioner.
