Pakistan resumes US soybean imports, boosts poultry sector

The initial cargo of US soybeans to re-enter Pakistan’s imports after a two-year hiatus arrived at Karachi’s Fauji Akbar Portia Marine Terminals. The arrival of approximately 265,000 metric tons of US soybeans in the country over the next several months will mark a significant milestone for the chicken sector.

By importing high-quality feed, poultry farmers are able to increase feed efficiency and, by extension, their profitability. The All-Pakistan Solvent Extractors Association Chairman, Zain Mahmood, emphasized the beneficial effects of this change. He stressed that Pakistan’s economy and supply chain would be strengthened by producing soybean meal and oil domestically instead of depending on imports.

A number of industries, including agriculture and poultry, stand to benefit from the resumption of US soybean imports, which should lead to overall economic growth and increased national value.
