Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Chief Minister of Punjab, conducted a visit to the pilot project of Gulberg Scheme Block-III, which is part of the Lahore Development Authority (LDA)’s Sustainable Development Model initiative.
During the visit, Provincial Housing Minister Bilal Yasin and LDA Director General Tahir Farooq provided the Chief Minister with an overview of the project’s key features and objectives.
The integrated development project seeks to substantially lower construction and maintenance expenses while improving urban infrastructure. The initiative will involve the rehabilitation of roads in Gulberg, along with the development of uniform green belts, pedestrian walkways, and cycling tracks.
The project prominently includes groundwater recharge, incorporating green belts positioned below road level to enhance rainwater absorption. A water drainage system will also be installed to effectively manage rainwater.
The proposal encompasses the implementation of solar-powered streetlights and the establishment of standardized signage. All utility wires, with the exception of electricity cables, will be relocated underground to enhance both aesthetics and safety.
During her address, Maryam Nawaz Sharif highlighted that the sustainable development model would transform Lahore and enhance the quality of life for its inhabitants.
In the upcoming phase, LDA will execute comparable projects at Sabzazar Main Boulevard, Johar Town G-1 Market, Thokar Niaz Baig Entry Point, and Tollinton Market.
The initiative is also focused on upgrading infrastructure in areas that have long been neglected. The roads in Block B-III have been successfully asphalted, accompanied by enhanced drainage systems. The installation of underground cabling for internet and other utilities is currently in progress, alongside the implementation of solar lights to improve the area’s aesthetic appeal and functionality.
“This model will enhance the city and provide greater convenience to its residents,” stated Maryam Nawaz Sharif, emphasizing the government’s dedication to urban development throughout Lahore and other cities.
