The earthquake occurred just over 60 miles west-southwest of Ferndale in Humboldt County, with its epicenter located 45 miles southwest of Eureka at a depth of 8 miles, according to the US Geological Survey.
The National Weather Service later canceled the warnings, stating on its website: “No Tsunami Warning, Advisory, Watch, or Threat.”

Initially, the earthquake was recorded as a 6.6 magnitude, but the USGS later revised it to 7.0.
Residents in northern California’s coastal areas and parts of the Central Valley reported feeling tremors.
