Former Iranian President Rafsanjani’s daughter released after two years.

Faezeh Hashemi Rafsanjani, daughter of former Iranian President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, was released on Wednesday after spending two years in Tehran’s Evin prison.

Arrested in September 2022, the 61-year-old activist was charged with inciting participation in protests triggered by Mahsa Amini’s death, who had been detained for allegedly violating Iran’s dress code for women.

Hashemi Rafsanjani, a former parliamentarian and women’s rights advocate, had previously been convicted in 2012 for anti-regime propaganda. She was sentenced to five years in prison following the 2022 protests.

Her release came after an appeal court ruling, as reported by her lawyer, Mohammad Hossein Aghassi, and the Hammihan newspaper. Her father, who served as Iran’s president from 1989 to 1997, was known for promoting improved relations with the West.
