Over 1.6 million people register for KP,s free solar program

More than 1.6 million people have signed up for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s free solar power initiative, the provincial energy department confirmed.

Under the program, 130,000 eligible individuals will receive solar power systems in two phases, with 65,000 beneficiaries selected per phase. Those enrolled in the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) automatically qualify for the free solar system.

Additionally, consumers using up to 100 electricity units per month can avail solar systems at a 50% subsidy. Each system is estimated to cost around PKR 200,000.

Authorities will begin verifying applicants’ eligibility once the registration period ends.

The initiative aims to provide sustainable energy solutions to low-income households, reduce reliance on the national grid, and promote renewable energy across the province.
