Permission to hold the Aurat March in the province capital on February 12 has been granted by the Lahore High Court. The ruling was made during the hearing of a contempt petition against the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore, who had originally refused to allow the event.
The case was filed by activist Leena Ghani and others, and it was presided over by Justice Anwar Hussain. The march was authorised by the Deputy Commissioner during the hearings, and a letter detailing the event’s security plans was filed by the government’s legal representation.
Authorities would provide complete security to guarantee participants’ safety, according to the official letter. The Lahore High Court dismissed the contempt petition with this guarantee.
