Climate activist Greta Thunberg was detained during a pro-Palestine protest in Denmark

Danish police detained activist Greta Thunberg during a protest in Copenhagen against the situation in Gaza and Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, according to the demonstration’s organizers. Thunberg was later released, as reported by Danish media, with Ekstra Bladet sharing video footage of her leaving a police station.

The police detained six individuals at Copenhagen University after around 20 protesters blocked a building entrance, with three entering inside. The police did not provide details on specific detainees.

Thunberg, known globally for her climate activism, has increasingly voiced support for the Palestinian cause. In May, she stated that such protests “should be everywhere.”

A video shared by the group Students Against the Occupation showed police officers escorting Thunberg and other detainees into a police van, with their hands either handcuffed or restrained. Thunberg was seen wearing a scarf featuring the Palestinian keffiyeh pattern, a common symbol in pro-Palestinian protests.

Copenhagen University is considering disciplinary measures against enrolled students who participated in the protest, according to an email from Kristian Cedervall Lauta, the university’s prorector of education. Thunberg, however, is not a student at the institution.
