On Wednesday, former President Donald Trump made a grand entrance in Wisconsin, pulling up to Green Bay’s Austin Straubel International Airport in a custom “Make America Great Again” garbage truck. Wearing an orange safety vest, Trump rode in the passenger seat as the truck circled the tarmac.
He asked reporters, “What do you think of my garbage truck?” Then he added, “This truck is dedicated to Kamala and Joe Biden.”
The stunt was a direct response to President Biden’s recent comments on a campaign call, where he reportedly referred to Trump supporters as “garbage” in response to comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s inflammatory remarks at a Trump rally in Madison Square Garden. The remark has drawn backlash from Republicans, who compared it to Hillary Clinton’s “basket of deplorables” comment from the 2016 election.
Biden had said, “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters,” while condemning Hinchcliffe’s comments about Puerto Rico as “un-American.” Republicans swiftly criticized the statement, prompting the White House to amend the official transcript, adding an apostrophe to clarify that Biden’s “garbage” remark was aimed only at Hinchcliffe and not at Trump’s base as a whole. Later, Biden attempted to clarify on social media, posting, “His demonizations of Latinos are unconscionable. That’s all I meant to say.”
Trump, distancing himself from Hinchcliffe, told reporters, “I don’t know anything about the comedian. I don’t know who he is. I heard he made a statement, but it’s a statement that he made. He’s a comedian. What can I tell you?”
Following the airport stunt, the MAGA garbage truck joined Trump’s motorcade on the way to his Green Bay rally, where he was scheduled to address supporters that evening.
