Control of US House remains uncertain after Republicans win White House senate

It remains uncertain whether Republicans or Democrats will control the US House of Representatives, despite Republicans winning the White House and Senate.

The outcome is crucial for President-elect Donald Trump’s agenda, which depends on whether his party can secure control of the House, potentially giving Republicans unified control of both the legislature and the White House. So far, Republicans have won 206 seats, while Democrats have secured 191, according to The Associated Press.

Republicans need 12 more seats to take full control, while Democrats need 27 to reach the 218 seats required for a majority. Trump, who secured a decisive victory over Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, has already surpassed the 270 Electoral College votes needed to win the presidency and is leading the popular vote, with 295 delegates to Harris’ 226.

Nevada and Arizona remain undecided, though they are leaning toward Trump.

Trump’s victory represents a remarkable comeback after his loss in 2020 and his unproven claims of a rigged election. He also became the first former president charged in multiple criminal cases, including a conviction in New York on charges related to hush money payments to Stormy Daniels. He is set to be inaugurated for a second term on January 20, 2025, with Harris overseeing the ceremony.
