Abraham Lincoln wax sculpture melted after ‘wild heat’ hits DC

Record temperatures in the U.S., particularly in the northeast, have everyone feeling the heat, including Abraham Lincoln.

A 3,000-pound wax statue of the former president, located outside an elementary school in Washington, D.C., melted as temperatures soared into triple digits last weekend. Photos and videos of the statue, which have since gone viral on social media, show Lincoln slumped in his chair, with many netizens commenting that it perfectly captures their own feelings during the heatwave.

CulturalDC, a non-profit organization that commissioned the 6-foot statue, stated on their website that the wax sculpture by artist Sandy Williams IV was “intended to be burnt like a candle and to change over time, but this extreme heat has accelerated the process.”
