Global observance of International Anti-Corruption Day, including in Pakistan

International Anti-Corruption Day is being observed today (Monday) across the globe, including in Pakistan, to raise awareness and encourage action against corruption and bribery. The United Nations (UN) established this day in October 2003 to promote global efforts to combat corruption and emphasize the significance of integrity and accountability.

The theme for this year, “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity,” highlights the crucial role of young people in fighting corruption and fostering a culture of transparency and honesty.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s Message
On this occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the nation, identifying corruption as a major issue and calling for collective action to eradicate it and strengthen the rule of law in Pakistan.

“On this International Anti-Corruption Day, let us unite in our commitment to build a Pakistan where public resources are used effectively for the benefit of our people,” the Prime Minister stated. He emphasized that combating corruption cannot be the sole responsibility of the government, urging citizens, communities, and institutions to join the cause. He also called on the media to actively expose corruption and promote accountability.

“This day calls for the active participation of all those who believe in justice and integrity. We must all take responsibility for creating a transparent and accountable society,” he added.

The observance of Anti-Corruption Day serves as a reminder of the global commitment to eliminate corruption and uphold integrity in all aspects of life. The UN continues to encourage nations to work together in their efforts to combat this issue.
