Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman emphasized the need for political unity on Thursday in light of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit. He urged political leaders to put aside their differences and come together for the occasion.
During a news conference, Fazlur Rehman called on the government to postpone any proposed constitutional amendments until after the SCO summit, advocating for a shift from political discord to unity.
He condemned Israel for its actions in Gaza, describing them as acts of brutal state terrorism against Muslims and stressing the obligation of the Muslim Ummah to intervene against such terrorism. Fazlur Rehman expressed concern over the silence of the Muslim community, noting that “Israel is using weapons supplied by the Western world.”
Additionally, he stated that he would not support the government’s constitutional amendment proposal, asserting that his party would not rush the process. He recalled that his party, along with others, had spent nine months deliberating the 18th Constitutional Amendment.
