Internet services disrupted in major Pakistani cities ahead of PTI protest

Internet and mobile network services have been suspended in several major cities across Pakistan, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Karachi, in anticipation of the planned protest by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) at D-Chowk in Islamabad.

The disruptions in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi are part of increased security measures. Social media users in Karachi are also experiencing difficulties accessing various platforms due to the service outage.

Previously, the Punjab government imposed Section 144, prohibiting political gatherings and protests in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Attock, and Sargodha. Rangers have been deployed in these areas to help maintain law and order, with three companies specifically assigned for security in Lahore on October 5. This ban under Section 144 will remain in effect until Sunday, October 6.

In Islamabad, the police have established seven special teams, each led by a sub-inspector, to arrest protesters and prevent gatherings. These teams will operate under the supervision of Superintendents of Police (SPs) and will focus on targeting local activists and individuals traveling to the capital for the PTI protest.
