Imran Khan has made a new appeal for a ‘peaceful protest’ at Islamabad’s D-Chowk, despite a ban on gatherings.

Incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan has once again rallied his supporters to assemble at D-Chowk in Islamabad for a “peaceful protest,” emphasizing the significance of their gathering even amid a ban on assemblies. This call comes as the PTI intensifies its efforts to organize a rally, reflecting the party’s unwavering commitment to addressing what they deem the “illegal” imprisonment of their leader. In recent weeks, the PTI has held several demonstrations across the country, focusing on pressing issues such as the delays by the Election Commission of Pakistan in executing the reserved seats verdict and advocating for the “protection of the Constitution.”

Despite the government’s imposition of strict guidelines prior to recent rallies in Islamabad and Lahore, clashes erupted between PTI supporters and law enforcement due to non-compliance. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi recently cautioned against any gatherings in Islamabad, citing the presence of foreign dignitaries as a reason for heightened security measures. In contrast, veteran politician Maulana Fazlur Rehman has suggested that the PTI postpone its planned protests until these foreign visitors have departed, reflecting the delicate balance of political dynamics at play.

Imran Khan’s message to the public, shared via his social media account, encouraged attendees to join the peaceful protest at D-Chowk and motivated supporters in Lahore to prepare for a gathering at Minar-i-Pakistan. He expressed a resolute belief that their struggle is entering a critical phase, indicating a strong sense of purpose among PTI supporters.

The Islamabad police have reiterated that Section 144 is currently enforced, urging citizens to avoid illegal activities and warning of consequences for those who disrupt peace. Meanwhile, the PTI continues to mobilize supporters, with caravans departing from various cities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, leading to a significant buildup for the protest. The political climate remains charged, as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and other PTI lawmakers are determined to participate, vowing to confront any attempts to impede their entry into the capital. The ongoing situation reflects the complexities of political activism in Pakistan and the PTI’s efforts to maintain momentum in the face of governmental restrictions.
