US approves $8.7 billion military aid package for Israel: Defense Ministry

On Thursday, Israel announced that it will receive a military aid package from the US totaling $8.7 billion.

This announcement comes amid a fourth consecutive day of extensive Israeli airstrikes against Lebanon, described as the largest since the 2006 war.

According to a statement from the Israeli Defense Ministry, “Director General of the Israel Ministry of Defense, Major General Eyal Zamir, has completed negotiations in Washington for this significant aid package to support Israel’s ongoing military efforts.” The package includes $3.5 billion for essential wartime procurement, which has already been allocated to the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMoD), and $5.2 billion earmarked for air defense systems, including the Iron Dome, David’s Sling, and an advanced laser system.

Israel has multiple missile interception systems in place, such as David’s Sling, Arrow, and the Iron Dome.

The statement also mentioned that the funds and equipment outlined in the agreement are expected to be delivered shortly.
