Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has submitted requests to the deputy commissioners (DCs) of Lahore and Rawalpindi seeking permission to hold rallies at Minar-e-Pakistan on October 5 and Liaquat Bagh on September 28, respectively.
Sources from the Lahore DC office reported that Akmal Khan Bari, Senior Vice President of PTI Central Punjab, filed the application on Tuesday. In his request, he noted that October 5 marks the birthday of PTI’s founder, urging the district government to permit the rally at Minar-e-Pakistan from 5 PM to 10 PM. He assured that all participants would adhere to legal requirements and highlighted that previous rallies by Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Tahir-ul-Qadri had also taken place at the same venue, reinforcing PTI’s case for their rally.
As of now, DC Lahore, Syed Mosa Raza, has not yet provided a response to the application, stating that discussions with higher authorities will be necessary before arriving at a final decision.
In a related effort, PTI has also filed a request with the deputy commissioner’s office in Rawalpindi for a public rally on September 28. The application was submitted by PTI leaders Ghulam Husnain, Owais Younis, and Nabeel Satti, who proposed Liaquat Bagh or Bhatta Chowk as potential venues. The party emphasized that Pakistan’s Constitution permits political parties to organize public gatherings and is currently awaiting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the DC. A response from DC Hasan Waqar Cheema is still pending.
