Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged developed nations to assist developing countries in escaping debt traps exacerbated by natural disasters linked to climate change.
He made this appeal during a panel discussion titled “SDG Moment 2024” at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The Prime Minister highlighted that Pakistan experienced its worst flooding in history in 2022, resulting in approximately $30 billion in economic losses. He emphasized that developed nations, which are primarily responsible for carbon emissions, should take on the responsibility of supporting developing countries.
Addressing the issue of education in Pakistan, he noted that 25 million children are currently out of school and that efforts are underway to enroll them. He shared that, both as Chief Minister of Punjab and as Prime Minister, he has implemented several groundbreaking initiatives aimed at promoting education and empowering disadvantaged communities.
