Salman Akram Raja questions amendments and Imran Khan’s military trial concerns

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has voiced strong opposition to recent constitutional amendments, asserting that they are intended to facilitate the trial of party founder Imran Khan in a military court.

In a news program, Raja cautioned that these amendments threaten to undermine the Constitution’s fundamental structure by potentially establishing a court that supersedes the Supreme Court’s authority. He emphasized that all citizens must respect the Supreme Court’s rulings, warning that any attempt to circumvent its power endangers the constitutional framework.

“This amendment is a covert effort to ban the PTI and transfer its leader to military courts,” Raja argued, criticizing the move as a distortion of the Constitution’s core principles. He added that a legal system built on deception is destined to fail.

In related developments, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has dismissed a petition filed by Imran Khan seeking an injunction against his military trial connected to the events of May 9. During the hearing, Additional Attorney General Munawar Iqbal Duggal informed the court that the government has yet to make a decision regarding Khan’s military trial. Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb indicated that if such a decision is reached, the appropriate legal procedures will be followed.
