The Counter-Terrorism Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police filed the FIR a day after an attack that resulted in the martyrdom of one police officer and injuries to five others.
The FIR includes charges under sections 324, 353, and 427 of the Pakistan Penal Code, as well as sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act, and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). The sections of the PPC pertain to willful murder, assault on public servants, and causing damage, while Section 7 of the ATA prescribes penalties ranging from ten years to life for acts of terrorism.
The banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan has denied any involvement in the attack, stating through AFP that it had “nothing to do with the attack” aimed at foreign ambassadors from various countries.
The attack has been condemned by local organizations, including the Swat Chamber of Commerce, the traders’ federation, legal professionals, and civil society members.
On Monday, the funeral prayer for the fallen constable Burhan Khan was held at the Police Lines in Mingora. He was laid to rest with full official honors in his ancestral cemetery in Shamozai village, Swat.
