On the occasion of the International Day of Peace, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the crucial roles of tolerance and dialogue in the quest for global harmony. In their addresses, both leaders underscored the pressing need for nations to come together in a spirit of cooperation to foster a culture of peace.
President Zardari, in his message, highlighted the importance of promoting respect for the dignity of all individuals. He stated, “Together, we can shape a peaceful future where our future generations can live in harmony.” He pointed out that the theme of this year’s observance—“cultivating a culture of peace”—calls for a united effort among nations to nurture values of tolerance and coexistence. His remarks were particularly poignant given the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and the troubling situation in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Addressing the humanitarian crisis, Zardari lamented the devastating toll of violence in Palestine, where thousands have lost their lives. He condemned the Israeli actions, calling them a “reign of terror” and urged the international community to acknowledge the urgent need for intervention. He further criticized the Modi government for its human rights abuses in IIOJK, warning that such violations undermine global peace and security.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoed these sentiments, calling for a resolution to conflicts through dialogue. He emphasized that sustainable peace hinges on addressing long-standing disputes fairly, particularly in IIOJK, through an impartial plebiscite. He reminded the world not to overlook the struggles faced by the Palestinian people, advocating for their rights as integral to achieving lasting peace.
On this significant day, both leaders reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fostering a more peaceful and inclusive world, encouraging the global community to work together to overcome divisions. They articulated a vision of collaboration aimed at building a future where harmony prevails, reflecting the shared values of compassion and understanding that are essential for global stability.
