“Efforts are underway to impose ‘civil martial law’: Qaiser”

Former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser has announced that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party is fully prepared for a significant public gathering scheduled in Lahore on Saturday. This event, aimed at advocating for constitutional supremacy, highlights PTI’s ongoing commitment to the principles of democracy and justice.

Speaking at a public assembly in Gulu Dheri, Qaiser emphasized the importance of an independent judiciary and the need for the people’s liberation. He criticized the ruling coalition’s proposed constitutional package, claiming it was an attempt to impose “civil martial law” on the nation. According to Qaiser, the opposition, with the support of JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, has effectively thwarted these attempts to undermine democratic governance.

Qaiser further alleged that this constitutional package is a strategic move to enable civilian trials in military courts, which he views as a direct threat to democratic norms. He claimed that discrepancies existed between the drafts presented to various political leaders, suggesting a lack of transparency in the government’s intentions.

During his address, Qaiser characterized Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as a weak leader, claiming he relies heavily on undemocratic forces for support. He expressed concern that this coalition is intent on dismantling the 1973 Constitution, a foundational document for Pakistan’s democracy.

MNA Shahram Khan Tarakai echoed these sentiments, highlighting the crucial role played by Maulana Fazlur Rehman in blocking the constitutional package in Parliament. He voiced concerns over the Awami National Party’s support for the government, deeming it a betrayal to the Pakhtun community.

As the PTI gears up for the Lahore rally, Qaiser and his colleagues are urging the public to stand up for their rights and participate actively in the fight for democracy and the rule of law. This rally is seen as a pivotal moment for PTI as it seeks to galvanize public support against perceived threats to constitutional governance.
