The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide $2 billion in annual assistance to Pakistan over the next three years. This commitment was announced by ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa during a meeting with Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari in Islamabad.
President Asakawa reaffirmed the ADB’s commitment to supporting Pakistan in infrastructure development and climate-resilient projects. He also commended the recent signs of economic recovery and stability in the country, expressing optimism about Pakistan’s future growth.
In the meeting, President Zardari highlighted the urgent need for increased ADB support to address the severe impacts of climate change. He discussed the devastating 2022 floods that significantly affected the country’s economy and updated President Asakawa on Pakistan’s ongoing economic and environmental challenges.
President Zardari also thanked the ADB for its continued support in Pakistan’s socio-economic development, particularly in enhancing climate resilience and facilitating economic recovery.
