In Islamabad, a district court on Wednesday issued a contempt of court notice to the superintendent of Adiala Jail due to his failure to produce Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in their bail applications.
Presiding over the bail pleas of Imran Khan in six cases and Bushra Bibi in one case, Additional District and Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra expressed dissatisfaction with the absence of the accused. Advocates representing PTI, including Sardar Bharji Khan and Amina Ali Advocate, appeared before the court.
Judge Sipra instructed the police officers present in the courtroom to communicate with the jail authorities and ensure the online presence of Imran Khan and his wife. He also issued a contempt of court notice to the superintendent of Adiala Jail, demanding an explanation for his failure to comply with the court’s orders.
During the proceedings, Sardar Masroof Khan Advocate, representing the accused, requested the court to mark attendance, with arguments to be presented at the next hearing. However, the judge insisted that attendance be marked through a video link, preceding any arguments.
Despite efforts, the accused’s presence was not established through video link upon the resumption of the hearing. Consequently, the court expressed indignation and reiterated the need for adherence to its instructions.
The court adjourned the hearing until March 11, directing the superintendent of Adiala Jail to submit a response addressing why contempt of court action should not be taken against him.
