Imran Khan, founding leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has alleged that the establishment is behind the disappearance of Ali Amin Gandapur. He added that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister has stayed silent out of loyalty and respect for the establishment.
Speaking informally to journalists at Adiala Jail on Friday, Imran compared the current situation in Pakistan to “Yahya Khan Part II,” accusing the establishment of undermining the country’s institutions.
He criticized the diminishing public trust in the police and lower judiciary, citing an instance where a judge reportedly took ‘three hours of instructions before ruling against Bushra Bibi.’
Imran welcomed Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s opposition to extending tenures for military and judicial officials, expressing relief that the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief does not support such extensions.
He also condemned Nawaz Sharif for allegedly attacking the judiciary by offering extensions, specifically targeting Supreme Court Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa over the extension issue.
Imran argued that Pakistan’s lack of foreign investment, in contrast to countries like Singapore, is due to the absence of rule of law. He stated that overseas Pakistanis are crucial for the country’s future and that investment from them is key to gaining independence from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Reiterating his claim that Gandapur’s disappearance is linked to the establishment, Imran suggested that everyone knows who is responsible for such actions in the country.
He also discussed the current governance situation, claiming that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif needs approval for every decision and might face a similar fate of disappearance.
Imran expressed frustration over the delay in the Toshakhana case, noting that despite multiple requests for an expedited hearing, the Supreme Court has yet to schedule it. He compared this to the rapid scheduling of cases by the Election Commission and accused the Chief Election Commissioner of colluding with certain judges to target PTI.
