Army Chief General Asim Munir meets with Prime Minister Shehbaz Shareef


In Islamabad, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir met with newly-elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday, marking their inaugural encounter since Shehbaz assumed office.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the meeting delved into significant matters, including national security. The discussions also encompassed operational affairs of the Pakistan Army and the prevailing defense situation.

The PMO statement further noted that the army chief extended congratulations to the prime minister on his recent assumption of office and conveyed good wishes.

In a separate engagement on Tuesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz met with a delegation led by Zardari of the PPP, with party chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari present. The PMO highlighted that the former president assured Prime Minister Shehbaz of the PPP’s support for the new government and its endeavors toward economic stability, development, and national prosperity.

Prime Minister Shehbaz secured victory in the prime ministerial election on Sunday, garnering 201 votes against his PTI-backed opponent, Omar Ayub Khan.

He took the oath of office on Monday in a modest yet dignified ceremony at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, attended by the services chiefs, government officials, senior politicians from coalition parties, and other dignitaries
