The Biden administration has authorized the sale of $164.6 million in heavy-duty tank trailers and related equipment to Israel, amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza and rising tensions in the West Bank.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced that Congress has been notified of this potential sale, with deliveries expected to commence in 2027.
The agency stated, “The United States is committed to Israel’s security, and it is crucial to U.S. national interests to support Israel in maintaining a strong and capable self-defense. This proposed sale aligns with those objectives.”
Last month, the State Department also approved a $20 billion arms package, including fighter jets, for Israel.
The U.S. faces criticism over its military aid to Israel, as more than 41,000 Palestinians have been reported killed in Gaza since October 7 due to Israeli bombings, which President Biden has condemned as “indiscriminate.”
Additionally, a cross-border attack by the Palestinian resistance group Hamas last October resulted in 1,139 fatalities, contributing to the escalation of the current conflict.
