Egypt announced on Wednesday that the cease-fire talks regarding the Gaza Strip, held in Doha, Qatar, have concluded and were considered serious, offering hope for an end to the protracted conflict in the region.
A high-level source quoted by Cairo News Channel reported that the talks included Egyptian Intelligence Chief Abbas Kamel, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and a Hamas delegation led by Khalil al-Hayya.
The talks were described as “serious and a potential sign of hope for resolving the crisis,” though no further details were provided.
For months, efforts by the US, Qatar, and Egypt have aimed to broker a deal between Israel and Hamas to secure a prisoner exchange, a cease-fire, and the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. However, these mediation efforts have faced obstacles due to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s refusal to meet Hamas’ demands to halt the conflict.
Despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire, Israel has maintained its offensive in Gaza since an attack early last October.
