On Thursday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) lifted objections on a plea from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, who is challenging the possibility of being tried in a military court. The court instructed the registrar’s office to assign a case number and demanded a clear response from the federal government by September 16, as reported by ARY News.
During the hearing, Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb questioned the legality of a potential military trial for Khan, underscoring his status as a civilian and expressing concerns over such a scenario. The court pressed the federal government to clarify whether it was seriously considering a military trial for the former prime minister.
The Additional Attorney General had initially asked for the objections on the plea to be addressed, but Justice Aurangzeb noted that these objections had already been resolved, allowing the case to move forward. The judge also referenced a Supreme Court ruling on the trial of civilians in military courts, indicating the legal significance of the matter.
