Israeli forces withdraw from the West Bank

The Israeli military withdrew early Friday from the northern West Bank cities of Jenin, Tulkarm, and their refugee camps after a 10-day incursion that left 36 Palestinians dead and dozens more injured.

Witnesses reported to Anadolu that Israeli forces pulled out of Tulkarm and its refugee camp, shortly after having already withdrawn from Jenin and its camp earlier in the night. The cities were left with widespread destruction to homes and infrastructure.

The Israeli army had initially exited Tulkarm on the evening of August 29, following a 48-hour military operation, but returned early Monday to continue its assaults.

According to the Palestinian news agency Wafa, Israeli forces also withdrew from Jenin and its refugee camp on Friday, leaving behind extensive damage after days of strikes that claimed dozens of lives. Residents fear further attacks, as the Israeli military remains positioned at nearby checkpoints.

In Jenin and the surrounding areas, roads, infrastructure, and essential services like water, electricity, and communication lines were severely damaged by Israeli machinery during the operation.

This latest military campaign, which began on August 28, marks Israel’s most significant offensive in the northern West Bank in 20 years. The Palestinian Health Ministry reports that 36 Palestinians were killed and over 150 injured in Jenin, Tulkarm, Tubas, and the Al-Fara camp during the incursion.

Tensions have sharply escalated in the occupied West Bank as Israel continues its offensive in Gaza, which has resulted in nearly 40,900 Palestinian deaths, mostly women and children, since October 7. According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, at least 691 people have been killed and more than 5,700 injured in the West Bank by Israeli forces during the same period.
