Two young siblings tragically died, and several others were left unconscious after consuming food contaminated with pesticide in Sehwan, Jamshoro district, on Thursday.
Police reports indicate that three-year-old Sitabi Channa passed away shortly after eating a meal at her family’s home in Khosa Mohalla, while four-year-old Shahzaman died at the Syed Abdullah Shah Institute of Medical Sciences. The institute’s director, Moinuddin Siddiqui, explained that the family had been eating at a table where wheat treated with ammonium phosphate pesticide had earlier been placed. It is believed that the pesticide transferred to their hands and utensils, contaminating the food.
Dr. Siddiqui mentioned that a similar tragedy had previously occurred in the same area, where a woman and her daughter died under comparable circumstances.
The remaining siblings, who fell unconscious, were rushed to Karachi for medical treatment.
