Babar Azam, out of form, drops out of ICC’s top 10 Test batsmen after almost 5 years

Pakistan batter Babar Azam, currently out of form, has dropped out of the ICC’s top 10 Test batsmen rankings after nearly five years. The former captain now sits at 12th, marking a rare rough patch in his Test career.

Babar entered the top 10 in December 2019 after scoring an unbeaten 102 in a drawn Test against Sri Lanka. During his time in the top 10, he twice slipped to 10th position — once in 2021 after scoring only 2 runs against Zimbabwe, and again after the first Test against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi last month.

His highest ranking was second place during England’s visit to Pakistan in 2022, where England won the series 3-0. Babar’s last significant Test knock was a 161-run innings against New Zealand in December 2022. Since then, he has struggled, going 16 innings without a century and surpassing 40 runs just once, with a score of 41 against Australia in a Boxing Day Test last year.
