In Lahore, a writ petition has been filed with the Lahore High Court (LHC) requesting to halt Sadiq Sanjrani from functioning as Senate chairman following his election as MPA from PB-32 Balochistan.
Advocate Nadeem Sarwar, representing the petitioner, referred to Article 223(4) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan 1973, which states that a person’s first seat becomes vacant upon being elected to a second.
Sarwar argued that despite Sanjrani currently holding the Senate chairman position, his recent election as MPA implies that his initial seat would soon be vacated according to constitutional provisions. This, he contended, raises concerns about the legality of his dual roles.
