Imran Khan requests the Islamabad High Court’s intervention to prevent potential military custody.

Former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, currently incarcerated, has petitioned the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to prevent his potential transfer to military custody for trial related to the events of May 9.

The petition, filed by his lawyer Uzair Karamat Bhandari, seeks to ensure that Khan remains under civilian jurisdiction. It names several officials as respondents, including the Secretary of Law, Secretary of Interior, Inspectors General of Islamabad and Punjab, the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and the Inspector General of Prisons.

Khan’s application requests the court to restrain authorities from transferring him to military custody and to keep his trial within the civilian judicial system.

Recently, Imran Khan expressed his readiness for dialogue, but emphasized that discussions should be with decision-makers. Speaking to journalists at Adiala Jail, he referred to May 9 as their “insurance policy” and suggested that neglecting this date could lead to the collapse of the government and its politics. He also proposed forming a judicial commission to investigate the events of May 9.

Additionally, Imran Khan mentioned his potential appointment as Chancellor of Oxford University would be a source of pride for Pakistan, though he stated that not being appointed would not be a problem.

Earlier, on July 25, Imran Khan had filed a similar petition with the Lahore High Court (LHC), arguing that detainees related to the May 9 events should remain under civilian court jurisdiction. This petition also challenged a narrative accusing him of inciting protests at the General Headquarters (GHQ).
