The Coordination Committee of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and its key ally, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), will convene on Monday to address issues related to their power-sharing agreement and other relevant matters.
PPP General Secretary for Central Punjab Hasan Murtaza confirmed that the meeting would take place but noted that no progress had been made on the power-sharing arrangements so far.
Last week, PML-N and PPP held a high-level meeting co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and PPP Central Punjab President Raja Pervez Ashraf. It was agreed that a follow-up meeting would be held within the week to discuss workable proposals and prepare draft recommendations. A subcommittee, with equal representation from both parties, has been formed to draft these recommendations.
Earlier in the week, sources from the PML-N indicated that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had reviewed and finalized the scope of the power-sharing arrangements with the PPP. Despite these discussions, the PML-N has not yet reached out to the PPP for further meetings, leading some PPP members to criticize the PML-N for delaying the power-sharing process.
The initial power-sharing formula, agreed upon before the alliance was formed, allowed the PML-N to establish a government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and a Punjab administration headed by Maryam Nawaz. However, the implementation of this arrangement gained renewed attention before the budget presentation, with PPP leaders linking their support for the federal budget to the execution of the power-sharing deal.
Murtaza mentioned that while the PML-N had scheduled the next coordination committee meeting, no specific time frame had been provided for the subcommittee meeting. He refrained from commenting on whether the PML-N was intentionally delaying the issue, noting that the meeting schedule had been announced. No PML-N representatives were available for comment.
