Punjab police thwart terrorist attack at Mianwali checkpoint

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced on Monday that Punjab police successfully thwarted an attack by suspected terrorists on a checkpoint in Mianwali. The attackers, identified as members of the terrorist group known as “Khawarij,” launched their assault under the cover of darkness at a police post near Isa Khel.

The officers at the checkpoint responded swiftly and effectively, forcing the 14 militants to retreat. In his statement, Naqvi praised the officers for their exceptional professionalism and bravery, highlighting their crucial role in countering terrorism in the region.

Naqvi also emphasized the consistent efforts of Punjab police in the fight against terrorism, acknowledging their importance as a strong defense force.

This incident comes during one of Pakistan’s deadliest weeks in recent years, with over 70 people killed in coordinated attacks across Balochistan, where terrorists targeted police stations, railway lines, and highways.

In a separate incident, a roadside bomb killed four people and injured 12 others in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s North Waziristan district. Additionally, Lieutenant Colonel Khalid Ameer and his relatives, who were abducted last month in Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, were safely released, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
