Pakistan will elect a new President on March 9

The presidential election in Pakistan is set for March 9, with two prominent contenders, Asif Ali Zardari of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and Mahmood Khan Achakzai of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), competing for the esteemed position.

National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has summoned a joint session of Parliament for March 9, as confirmed by a notification issued by the National Assembly Secretary.

Today (Monday) marks the scrutiny of nomination papers for presidential candidates. The final list of eligible candidates will be disclosed on March 5 (Tuesday).

Asif Ali Zardari’s nomination papers have passed scrutiny, granting him eligibility to vie for the prestigious presidential seat. However, there are pending concerns regarding Mahmood Khan Achakzai’s nomination papers, leading to their current status of non-approval.

The voting for the presidential position will occur simultaneously across the Senate, National Assembly, and four provincial assemblies on March 9, from 10 am to 4 pm.
