Minister of Energy (Power Division) Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari stated on Tuesday that the government will enforce a zero-tolerance policy against electricity theft and those who facilitate it.
During his visit to Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco), Mr. Leghari received a briefing from Iesco Board of Directors chairman, Dr. Tahir Masood, on the company’s administrative and operational matters.
Mr. Leghari stressed the need for complete recovery of dues from both government and private consumers and assured that Iesco would receive full support from the government, the Ministry of Energy, and law enforcement agencies.
He instructed Iesco CEO Mohammad Naeem Jan to promptly implement the Rs14 per unit relief announced by the Punjab Government for domestic consumers.
Mr. Leghari emphasized that eliminating electricity theft could be achieved through the use of modern technology in the power sector. Dr. Masood assured that Iesco would meet the established targets.
Federal Secretary (Power Division) Dr. Mohammad Fakhre Alam Irfan and other senior officials were also present.
