Balochistan sinks further into militant unrest

At least 50 people, including 14 security personnel, were killed in a series of militant attacks across Balochistan, primarily orchestrated by the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). The attackers targeted police stations, a paramilitary camp in Bela, and civilians, particularly those from Punjab. In Musakhail, 23 passengers were executed after militants checked their identity documents. The BLA claimed responsibility, stating that their Majeed Brigade carried out the attacks, including a suicide bombing at an FC camp in Bela.

Security forces responded with operations that reportedly neutralized 21 militants. In the aftermath, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi vowed to crush terrorism, with Bugti ruling out any negotiations and Naqvi promising a firm, “tit-for-tat” response alongside a potential political solution. Highways were blocked, a railway bridge was blown up, and numerous vehicles were torched, causing widespread disruption in the province. The military’s media wing, ISPR, confirmed that 14 soldiers and law enforcement officers were martyred in the operations.
