The Punjab Forest Department has launched a groundbreaking plantation drive under the Green Pakistan Initiative, marking a significant advancement in the province’s environmental conservation efforts.
In a historic first, twenty thousand seed balls were dispersed over the hilly terrain of Chakwal district using paragliders. This innovative method targets hard-to-reach areas, ensuring that even the most remote regions contribute to the province’s greening efforts.
The campaign, which involves collaboration with the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and the Pakistan Army, has also included extensive planting activities in the Murree Division. This coordinated effort highlights the government’s dedication to environmental sustainability and the essential role of inter-agency cooperation in achieving the Green Pakistan Initiative’s ambitious goals.
As part of the “Plant for Pakistan” program, more than three million saplings were planted in a single day by various government departments across Punjab. This large-scale effort underscores the provincial government’s commitment to combating climate change, restoring ecosystems, and increasing the region’s green cover.
The drive will continue, with plans to plant over ten million saplings across Punjab. This initiative is expected to make a substantial contribution to the national goal of expanding forested areas, addressing environmental degradation, and promoting a greener, healthier Pakistan.
The Punjab government, working alongside federal entities and local communities, remains committed to the Green Pakistan Initiative, which is a key element of the broader national strategy to mitigate climate change and ensure a sustainable future for future generations.
