The interim government of Balochistan has taken immediate action in response to the devastating flash floods caused by heavy rains in Gwadar, declaring the city a disaster zone and imposing an emergency.
In an official statement, the caretaker Information Minister, Jan Achakzai, announced the decision to acknowledge the gravity of the situation by declaring Gwadar calamity-hit and instituting an emergency. The interim Chief Minister of Balochistan, Ali Mardan Khan Domki, has already approved a summary for this action, and a formal notification will be issued shortly.
Furthermore, Achakzai emphasized that the interim Chief Minister would personally oversee relief efforts in all rain-affected areas of the province. The heavy rains not only submerged residential neighborhoods but also disrupted vital services such as electricity and exacerbated the challenges faced by the already strained sewerage system, exacerbating the plight of the local population.
With the situation rapidly deteriorating, urgent measures are being implemented to provide shelter, food, and medical assistance to those impacted by the disaster.
