In his Independence Day address, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended felicitations to the nation and promised a “significant cut” in electricity tariffs within the coming days. He acknowledged that high electricity bills are currently a major concern, hindering the growth of Pakistan’s industry, agriculture, and exports. The Prime Minister emphasized that the government is working tirelessly to resolve this issue and will soon announce the tariff reduction.
PM Shehbaz urged the youth to focus on their education and skills development, warning them against falling prey to anti-state activities fueled by “digital terrorism.” He paid tribute to the sacrifices of Pakistan’s forefathers and unsung heroes of the Pakistan Movement, highlighting the resilience of the nation in overcoming various challenges.
He also announced the postponement of a comprehensive economic reform plan, which is now set to be unveiled next week. The plan will include both micro and macro-economic measures aimed at improving the economy, providing relief to the masses, and attracting local and foreign investment.
During the ceremony, PM Shehbaz condemned the ongoing violence in Palestine and expressed solidarity with the Kashmiri people. He also thanked UAE’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for his Independence Day greetings, reaffirming the strong ties between the two countries.
