General Kidwai states that Pakistan’s nuclear capabilities guarantee sovereignty against external threats.

Adviser to the National Command Authority Lt Gen Khalid Kidwai stated on Wednesday that Pakistan’s nuclear capabilities underscore the country’s commitment to protecting its sovereignty from external threats.

Speaking at a conference at the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS), Gen Kidwai elaborated on Pakistan’s Full Spectrum Deterrence (FSD) doctrine, emphasizing its effectiveness in countering perceived threats, such as India’s “Cold Start Doctrine” and other proactive military strategies.

“Pakistan’s comprehensive deterrence strategy, combined with our nuclear readiness, reflects our determination to defend our territory from any form of aggression,” Gen Kidwai said.

He described Pakistan’s tactical nuclear weapons as “weapons of peace,” attributing them with maintaining strategic balance in South Asia. Gen Kidwai highlighted the widespread national support for Pakistan’s nuclear program, viewing it as a cornerstone of national security and a deterrent against potential conflicts.

Addressing the shifting geopolitical landscape, Gen Kidwai remarked, “It is increasingly essential for Pakistan to ensure that regional strategic stability remains intact.”

He criticized India’s aggressive stance and threats of cross-border military actions as ineffective political rhetoric, thwarted by Pakistan’s strong nuclear deterrence.

Gen Kidwai also lauded Pakistan’s measured response as a responsible nuclear state, particularly during crises like the 2019 Balakot incident, which prevented escalation and demonstrated the maturity of Pakistan’s strategic command.

He further noted that Pakistan’s formidable nuclear arsenal constrains India’s conventional military strategies, driving it toward non-traditional warfare tactics.

“In response to India’s 5th generation warfare, we must stay vigilant and prepared, adopting a strategy that includes both offensive and defensive options to effectively counter hybrid threats,” he added.
