Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), will hold a press conference today (Monday) at 3 PM at the General Headquarters to address the nation’s security challenges.
The briefing will cover recent increases in terrorism in Pakistan and the army’s role in combating it.
In a previous press conference on July 22, the ISPR discussed Operation Azm-e-Istakham, digital terrorism, the TLP sit-in, and the Palestine conflict. Lieutenant General Chaudhry clarified that Operation Azm-e-Istakham is a counter-terrorism initiative, not a military operation, and criticized efforts to politicize it. He asserted that it should not be compared to past military operations like Zarb-e-Azb and noted that there is strong opposition to the success of the National Action Plan.
Chaudhry emphasized that the operation seeks to sever the link between terrorism and criminal activities, such as smuggling and illicit property ownership. He warned that misleading narratives are being created to make the operation controversial and stressed its importance for national security.
On digital terrorism, the DG ISPR highlighted the threat of misinformation campaigns targeting the military and its leadership on social media, comparing these digital threats to physical terrorism due to their potential to destabilize the nation.
Regarding recent controversies, Chaudhry dismissed rumors of military involvement in protests, such as the TLP sit-in at Faizabad, as false. He reiterated that both the military and the government are committed to resolving issues peacefully.
He also discussed the resolution of the Chaman border sit-in, which involved agreeing to documentation for cross-border movement and criticized the illegal trade activities at the Afghan border.
