A German tourist, 27-year-old Berg Florian, was robbed near Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport, police reported on Saturday. Florian, who had traveled to Pakistan on a bicycle, was camping near the airport when the incident occurred.
Florian, visibly distraught in a video, recounted to the police that he was attacked by two armed men while he was asleep in his tent. The attackers tortured him, stole his mobile phone, cash, and camera, valued at Rs500,000, and then fled the scene.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Cantt Owais Shafiq stated that an investigation has been initiated. Law enforcement is examining the area around the airport, utilizing CCTV footage and other evidence to track down the suspects.
An FIR has been registered under Section 382 of the PPC (theft after preparation made for causing death, hurt, or restraint in order to commit theft). According to Florian’s statement in the FIR, the incident occurred around 1:30 am when two men approached his tent, demanding cash. When Florian tried to escape, one of the men caught him, choked him for a minute, and punched him. The attackers then took his camera, AirPods, iPhone, Rs5,000 cash, and a power bank.
Florian described the suspects as wearing white and black robes, with one having a big chin, both aged between 25-32, around 175-180cm tall, with dark skin and beards.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Operations Muhammad Faisal Kamran has taken notice of the incident and directed SP Shafiq to ensure the suspects are apprehended. DIG Kamran assured that strict action would be taken against those tarnishing the country’s reputation.
Florian’s 30-day visit visa for Pakistan is set to expire on September 11.
