Imran cautions KPK ministers about accountability

Imran Khan, the founder of Tehreek-i-Insaaf and former Prime Minister, has issued a stern warning from his jail cell to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government officials, emphasizing that they will be held accountable for corruption and governance issues within their departments.

Provincial Communication and Works Minister Shakeel Ahmad, speaking at a press conference on Friday, revealed that he, PTI General Secretary Omar Ayub Khan, former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, and other leaders met Khan in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Thursday. The meeting was to discuss the party’s governance and performance in KP.

Khan reportedly expressed concern about the state of affairs in some departments and instructed Ahmad to convey to cabinet members, administrative secretaries, and other officials that they would be held responsible for any corruption, commissions, or irregularities.

Alongside provincial government spokesman Barrister Mohammad Ali Saif, Ahmad stated that the PTI government in KP maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. He noted recent complaints about administrative issues within his department, leading Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur to remove the department’s secretary on Thursday evening.

Ahmad called for the public to come forward with evidence of corruption or governance issues. He added that a monthly report on departmental performance would be submitted to Khan, who would also hold weekly meetings with cabinet members to address public complaints.

Addressing concerns about Khan’s trust in Chief Minister Gandapur, Ahmad clarified that Gandapur has the full support of Khan and regularly updates him on government actions.

Ahmad also criticized Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government for allegedly denying KP its rights, citing the continued refusal to post a chief secretary of the PTI government’s choice as a significant issue.

Barrister Saif emphasized that all ministers would meet with Khan individually to ensure prompt resolution of public complaints and reaffirmed the commitment to eradicating corruption and administrative irregularities in the province.
