As the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) gears up for a major rally next week, senior leader Asad Qaiser announced on Thursday that party founder Imran Khan has endorsed the creation of a “grand opposition alliance” through the expansion of the Tehreek Tahafuz-e-Ayin-e-Pakistan (TTAP) platform.
“PTI to broaden opposition alliance with Imran Khan’s approval,” Qaiser, a former National Assembly speaker, said during a media briefing outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, alongside the party’s Secretary-General Omar Ayub Khan and others.
Qaiser disclosed that PTI intends to consolidate all opposition parties for a vigorous anti-government campaign. He noted that the upcoming rally in Swabi aims to advocate strongly for the release of Imran Khan and other detained leaders.
“This country will only be governed by law and the Constitution,” he asserted.
Qaiser also criticized the current government over escalating electricity bills, calling them “unacceptable” for the inflation-stricken public. He expressed PTI’s support for Jamaat-e-Islami’s (JI) sit-in on Rawalpindi’s Murree Road, protesting against the sharp increase in power bills since July 26.
Ayub, speaking at the event, encouraged the public to attend the Swabi gathering on August 5 to show support for the former prime minister and PTI.
Ayub stated that during their meeting, Imran Khan condemned the killing of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh and criticized the West for its failure to halt Israeli aggression against Palestinians. He urged the international community to take decisive actions to ensure peace in Palestine and end Israeli brutality in Gaza.
